ONE OF THE difficulties in understanding the spirit realm is that New Testament authors, especially Paul, used the same Greek terms for both earthly and heavenly beings.  
 So, how do we understand terms like thrones, dominions, rulers, authorities, principalities, and powers? To borrow another phrase from Paul, as though we’re looking into a mirror in a darkened room.

WHEN ARE GODS not gods? When they’re rebranded as human judges or rulers to avoid uncomfortable theological implications.  
 Brian Godawa (www.Godawa.com), best-selling author of the theological thriller Cruel Logic, Doug Van Dorn(www.douglasvandorn.com), author of Giants: Sons of the Gods, and Dr. Judd Burton (www.BurtonBeyond.net), author of Interview With the Giant, discuss a Hebrew phrase in Genesis 6:2 that has led to a lot of theological discussion over the last 1,700 years. Are the bene ha-elohim (“sons of God”) angelic beings or is that simply a term that refers to human rulers who allowed themselves to be corrupted.  
 Psalm 82 reads like a courtroom scene in heaven if one accepts the supernatural interpretation of “sons of God” or “sons of the Most High.” However, because Jesus quotes Psalm 82:6 (“I said, ‘You are gods’”) in John 10:34, responding to a group of Jews who wanted to stone him for claiming to be divine, there are those who argue that Psalm 82 does not refer to supernatural beings.  
 We discuss Jesus’s use of Psalm 82 in John 10; in a nutshell, he would not have claimed to be divine (“I and the Father are one” – John 10:30) and then immediately said, in effect, “But it’s OK because you’re all gods, too.”

Iron and Myth 29: Gods or Human Judges?

IT’S BIZARRE that world opinion has swung against Israel in its ongoing war in Gaza.    Less than eight months ago, a murderous death cult swarmed out of Gaza, murdering more than 1,200 and abducting another 200. Yet the tone of media coverage could lead one to conclude that Israel was the aggressor in this conflict. The longer Hamas delays the release of the remaining 130 or so hostages, its only leverage over Israel, the greater the pressure applied to Israel by the rest of the world including its primary military supporter, the United States. 
 Last week, we traveled to Israel with a small group from the US, UK, and New Zealand to see things for ourselves, without the corporate media filter. We visited communities in the Negev that border Gaza: Sderot, where the police station was besieged and overrun; Ofakim, where a quick-thinking Jewish grandmother stalled terrorists with her cooking until her police officer son could round up counterterror forces; and Re’im, site of the Nova Music Festival, where 364 Israelis died that morning—the single deadliest terror event in Israel’s modern history.
