Welcome friends to Back Issue Bloodbath, a comics-centric podcast presented by Geek Hard. Join host Andrew Young and friends as they get down and dirty in the four-colour world of comic books, focusing on classic stories, new issues, comic creators and hot button topics.
This episode of Back Issue Bloodbath was recorded “On The Road”! Not on an actual road, mind you. But we were on location at the Oshawa Public Library Fan Con, held back in the first week of November! Andrew sat down with comic creator David Bishop to talk about a book that they’re both big fans of: Irredeemable.
First Published in 2009 by Boom! Comics, Irredeemable is a series written by Mark Waid with artwork from Peter Krause and Diego Barreto. Mark Waid takes his stab at deconstructing the superhero genre by taking the world’s greatest hero and turning him into their greatest villain. What if Superman woke one day and decided that humanity wasn’t worth saving? We get to see the answer to that very question as Supes’ stand-in, The Plutonian, terrorizes the people he once swore to protect! The series ran until May 2012 and had a popular following.
Listen as Andrew and David give their thoughts on the first story arc from Irredeemable! There’s also talk of David’s past work in comics as well as some tidbits on future projects. Andrew also brings up how he and David met to embarrass him. (Spoilers: It worked!) All in a day’s work here on Back Issue Bloodbath.
