Is God judging you and your sin every time you mess up? I used to think when I messed up that God was judging me and going to punish me by causing a car accident or by losing business. Constantly I was wondering if my sickness or being broke was his judgment on my sin. Today I want to show you several scriptures to say that he no longer judges or even punishes our sin.
Jesus says multiple times in the book of John that he did not come to judge the world, but to save it.
John 12:47 NIV “If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.”
John 3:17 NOV “For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
Another word for condemn is judge.
In fact, Jesus even says that God the Father isn’t judging us!
John 5:22 NIV Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son.
vs 24 Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.
This is GOOD NEWS! When we put our faith in Christ, God will not judge us! In fact, God placed judgment for sin on Jesus at the cross and bore the punishment for our sin. Again – Good News!
1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
If we fear punishment, it will be very hard to receive God’s love. Fearing punishment is a result of believing that how we have behaved changes our state of forgiveness. It says, I’m not forgiven and He is going to punish me, fear and guilt is the result. The enemy wants to kill us with guilt for all the little and big things we do. When we can settle in our hearts that he isn’t punishing us, we can be set free from guilt and even the sin that tempts us.
God is not judging you and he is not judging America.
