Iran was under Sharia law prohibits actions deemed haram (forbidden), including eating pork, consuming alcohol, gambling (maysir), charging interest (riba), and excessive uncertainty in business contracts (gharar). It also forbids murder, theft, adultery, and public displays of affection, and imposes strict, often severe, penalties for these offenses.
