Welcome all to IS PHARMACOLOGY DIFFICULT Podcast ! I am Dr Radhika Vijay, in today's episode, I will tell you that firstly news is that Weekend Classroom episodes are back on youtube channel, don't miss them, secondly after a great gracious sneak peek in today's episode via weekend classroom, I will be breaking the ice today with a new episode known as Dosing Schedules, well! that's a sort of scheme of drug administration in order to achieve desired objectives or effects and avoiding toxicity of drug at the same time. Then after this introductory definition, I will be discussing the basic concepts of dosing schedules based on the pharmacokinetic principles that we have studies so far. Firstly it states that for doses having very short half life, like epinephrine, dobutamine, etc, drug administration should be via constant I.V. Infusion to maintain their steady state concentration. Then secondly for drugs having short half life, ranging from 30 mins to 2 hours, like cephelexin, benzylpenicillin, etc. it becomes very difficult to administer drug every half life interval, so if they satisfy two criterias of having high safety margin and following first order kinetics, then their high dose can be administered every 6 to 8 hours, then comes deugs with 4 to 12 hrs of half life, they are easy to be administered every half life, no issues in them, and then I talked about drugs with median half life, those ranging from 12 to 24 hrs, in case its around 12 hrs, dose can be given as 12 hourly dose, and then for 24 hours, I called today's session to halt, so rest to be covered in tomorrow's episode, till then, do follow me here, do rate and review on ITunes, Apple podcasts, stay tuned, happy, healthy , safe and enlightened, thank you!!
