Receptors are specific regulatory macromolecules which control the effectors hence these are binding sites are found on surface or inside the effector cell. it recognises signal molecule or drug and also initiates the response. It Itself has no other function. Layman generally calls all receptors, but Ii will advise you to be clear about effector and receptor. This is cleared with the help of apt examples.
