Welcome all to IS PHARMACOLOGY DIFFICULT Podcast ! I am Dr Radhika Vijay, in today's episode, I will talk about a changed, absolutely novel topic after a poetic description of the changing weather, the great month of November! Today's topic of discussion is Transporters, several substrates are translocated across the membrane by binding to specific transporters which are also known as carriers. This movement can occur along the concentration gradient or even against the concentration gradient. Many drugs directly interact with the solute carrier(SLC). This SLC class of transporter proteins inhibit the ongoing physiological transport of the metabolite. there are numerous examples to narrate in this context like, Desipramine and Cocaine block neuronal uptake of Noradrenaline by interacting with Norepinephrine Transporter(NET).Amphetamine selectively blocks the dopamine reuptake in brain neurons by dopamine transporter(DAT). Hemicholinium blocks choline uptake in cholinergic neurons and depletes Acetylcholine.Anticonvulsant Tiagabine acts by blocking reuptake of GABA into brain neurons by GABA transporter (GAT-1) and likewise numerous examples to list for, the list is long enough so do pay attention, that's all for today, till next episode, do follow me here, do rate and review on ITunes, Apple podcasts, stay tuned, thank you!
