Is Politics For Me?

Listen Later

Rachel & Tanvi sit down with Georgie Carey, Deputy Mayor of Mosman Park in Australia.

We find hope in people like Georgie who spends her time taking care of 10,000 people’s everyday needs like trash, traffic and tolls, and leaning into these small units of change as a way to make big change possible. We discuss:

  • What it (actually) means to be a Deputy Mayor
  • Why Politics was the arena Georgie chose to create change
  • What it’s like to be a young-ish woman in local government
  • What it was like to be trolled by the far right during her first campaign
  • How leaning into the smaller units of change in our lives is a powerful way to reclaim agency
  • It hasn’t always been easy to be a 20-something in such a position of seated power (she first got elected at 21!), but Georgie sees it as a necessary way to make a lasting difference with and for her beloved home.

We absolutely loved this conversation and hope you do, too.
