Libby DeLana is an award-winning executive creative director, designer/art director by trade, who has spent her career in the ad world. She was the Director of Design at MullenLowe for 15 years, then went on to co-found the agency Mechanica. Libby’s work has been featured in The One Show awards (US), Cannes Lions, and in publications including D&AD, Fast Company, Graphis and Communication Arts. She has been profiled by the BBC Radio 4 series The Chain and several podcasts.
Libby is very committed to purpose-driven organisations and is currently on the Board of Directors for BlinkNow, The Jeanne Geiger Crisis Centre and is an advisor to It’s August, a brand reimagining and redefining the period experience.
She is an advocate for female leadership, an aspiring pilot, rookie fly fisher, fan of a strong cup of tea and mum to two tall, smart, kind men. Do Walk is her first published book.
I invited Libby to my podcast because she is a world-conqueror, although I’m sure she would balk at that description. She’s also a fellow cold dipper and I am inspired by her 5am walking practice every day. Our conversation had me thinking different about noble suffering for art, how to stay connected even if you’re venturing into new territory, and that just because someone seems intrepid, there might be more to the story than meets the eye. Let’s hear from Libby.
