We discuss the political apathy and lack of civic education and engagement among a significant portion of youth in the U.S. today: why this is, what its causes are, and the reasons for its lack of engagement in our political systems on the local, state and national levels.  We discuss how we got here and why, the role of social and mass media in this situation, as well as the role our educational system plays in it.  Finally, we discuss the critical importance of engaging in this conversation, as well as the deeper reasons for the apparent lack of political engagement by many young people in the larger community and society.
