Is the US ready to pass child online safety legislation?

Listen Later

This week on Top in Tech, Conan is joined by Ugonma to discuss child online safety and privacy in the United States, following a dramatic hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee. While there is momentum for passing legislation, the likelihood of it happening in the near future is unlikely due to a myriad of factors, including the limited election-year legislative window. The Biden administration is taking some action through interagency task forces and proposed changes to the Federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule. Meanwhile, states are actively pursuing their own child safety laws; however, these efforts are increasingly running to legal hurdles.
