Is there a quick way to remove a cold sore?
Cold sores (oral herpes) are caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). While there is no instant cure, early treatment may shorten healing time. In this episode, we explain what works, what does not, and how cold sores are managed in Europe.
In this episode, we cover:
• What a cold sore is (a recurrent viral blister on or around the lips)
• Early symptoms: tingling, burning, itching before blister formation
• How antiviral treatments (aciclovir, valaciclovir) work
• When topical vs oral antivirals may be considered
• Why early initiation improves effectiveness
• Common triggers: stress, illness, UV exposure
• When lesions may indicate a different condition
• Situations where prescription requests may be declined
Doctors assess frequency of outbreaks, immune status, pregnancy status, severity, and timing of symptoms before prescribing antivirals. Not all cases require oral medication. Severe infection, eye involvement, or immunocompromised patients may require in-person assessment.
This episode reflects how HSV-1 infections are evaluated within structured medical assessment in European telemedicine at Mobi Doctor.
