David facing Goliath in 1 Samuel 17 is more than just a story—it’s a recorded event that carries deep truth and inspiration. If Jesus and what He did for us weren’t in the Bible, this would be my ultimate favorite. David, a shepherd, a young man overlooked by many, stepped forward in faith when he heard Goliath defy the armies of the living God. His response? “Is there not a cause?”
David’s confidence wasn’t in his own strength but in God’s faithfulness. When Saul questioned his ability to fight, pointing out his youth and Goliath’s experience, David’s response wasn’t fear—it was testimony. He remembered how God had already delivered him from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear while simply watching sheep. If God did it then, He would do it again.
There’s so much to take from this moment. David wasn’t moved by Eliab’s anger, Saul’s doubts, or Goliath’s size—he was moved by his faith in God. Is there not a cause? When the enemy speaks against what belongs to God, how do we respond? May we have faith like David to step forward, knowing the same God who brought victories before will do it again.
