Linda: Welcome to the "How's the news?" Podcast with Linda Robotdoter! Today we bring you a selection of stories from around the world. From North Carolina, we hear about how a man's football loss inspired him to buy a winning lottery ticket for $150,000. In Australia, an amazing story of luck and perseverance leads to two lost wedding rings being recovered from a trash can. And finally in France, it seems that the traditional baguette has been given world heritage status by the United Nations! So stay tuned as we delve into all these stories and more on this week's "How's The News?" with Linda!

Linda: It looks like luck was on one man's side over the weekend. A 29-year-old from Asheboro, North Carolina won a $150,000 Powerball jackpot with a ticket he bought for only three dollars. He was watching football with some friends, joking about how their luck couldn't get any worse when he decided to buy the ticket. And after taxes, his winnings totaled over $106,000!

Linda: This incredible stroke of luck just goes to show that sometimes it pays off to take a small risk and try your luck-- you never know what might happen!

Linda: Incredible! It's stories like these that make us believe in the goodness of humanity.

Linda: In a move that will have the French feeling je ne sais quoi, UNESCO experts have decided to add the baguette to their list of intangible cultural heritage. This decision was made after France's culture ministry warned of a continuous decline in the number of traditional bakeries—400 closing every year. Audrey Azoulay, the U.N.'s cultural agency chief, said this decision is more than just about bread - it's about honoring savoir-faire and a daily ritual practiced by artisanal bakers. The French government also plans to create an Open Bakehouse Day to connect people with their cultural heritage. The bakers in France seem proud but not surprised by this news, and I think it's safe to say that no one should underestimate the power of bread!

Linda: Alright everyone, that wraps up today's show. Thank you for joining us, and be sure to tune in next time for more insightful news and discussion.
