Welcome back to Tech Minute. Today we’re talking about the new Trump Mobile plan, which launched at $47.45 per month for unlimited talk and text, international calling, plus 20 gigabytes of “high-speed” data that the company calls 5G. But as The Verge bluntly puts it, “for a prepaid phone service, Trump Mobile is a bad deal.”
You can get unlimited 5G service for just forty dollars from Visible, Cricket, or Metro. Go broader and you’ll find Google Fi’s thirty gigabytes for thirty-five dollars, Walmart Family Mobile’s twenty gigabytes for thirty-three eighty-eight, or Boost Mobile’s thirty gigabytes for just twenty-five dollars a month. Even US Mobile offers unlimited 5G for thirty-five bucks.
Trump Mobile does tack on perks like roadside assistance with a one-hundred-dollar towing credit and device protection through Omega Mobile Care—but those extras may not justify the steep price. As The Verge notes, carriers like this “don’t have to deploy a network or worry about offering great service — they just have to brand it well.” Choose wisely.
