* God was comforting Israel because of their dire situation, and He did it by encouraging them to do five things:
* 1) Look Up (vs 1) - look to God and remember that He is not only the Creator but also your Father who provides for you and protects you.
* 2) Look Back (vs 2-3) - they needed to remember where they came from and who's they were. They needed to recall what God had done for His people in the past and take comfort that this same God would take care of them.
* 3) Look Forward (vs 4-5) - they needed to then recognize that God would bring justice and light to His people in His time. They needed to trust Him with their future, and to know that He would provide and protect anyone who's heart was set on honoring Him.
* 4) Look Down (vs 6) - they needed divine perspective, to see the world through God’s eyes. This made their current situation seem so small, themselves so weak and feeble, and God so big and powerful.
* 5) Look Within (vs 7-8) - they needed to check their hearts to see if there was any fear of man inside them, and to know that if God's law was in their hearts they had nothing to fear.
