There is a constant sin that plagues the people of God. And that sin is idolatry. And we see that many times the prophets speak of idolatry as a spiritual adultery. Rather than being faithful to God, their husband, Israel, committed spiritual adultery, and went after other gods, even though Moses warned them and commanded them not to do so. And revealed to them to do so would bring about God's judgment, his curse, instead of his goodness, and his blessing.
