Many times in the Scripture, when God speaks about serving Him, doing His will, obeying his word, he puts it in a very specific context. And that is walking in faithfulness, is spiritual warfare. We all know that versus scripture that Paul speaks of in Ephesians, where he says, Put on the full armor of God. Yes, indeed, serving God is a spiritual battle. But here's the good news. Not only do we have armor to put on, but also in that spiritual arsenal is a mighty weapon. And that weapon is fasting.
