“Worthless Worship"
                                           Isaiah 1:10-20

 

                 The Key verse:  V-13

 

                Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your
                bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and
                proper worship. Rom 12:1

     
       Four parts to this section:

     1.        The Frustration

 

·        The ritual was about reminding us about our sinfulness: Heb 10:3-4

·        God wants more than mere ritual: Micah 6:6-8; lifestyle.

·        They were just going through the motions-just noise:

         If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a
         resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 1 Cor 13:1       

·        God does not want meaningless offerings:  Mt. 5:23-24

 

     2.        The Burden

·        Its all about them: Amos 4:4-5

·        Because their hands are dirty, Prayer without ethical change is ineffective:
         1 Pet 3:12:; Psalm. 34:15

 

    3.         The Solution: Change!

 

·        God has always wanted change: Deut 10:12

·        God is about social justice: Ex 22:21-24

·        How we relate to other is an expression of our faith: James 1:17

·        Future blessing: Titus 3:5

 

     4.        The Decision:  Obedience

·        Listen to how Paul defines the gospel: Rom. 1:5
