Chapter 1:
-The leader of the Islamic State group has called for attacks on Canada and other Western countries in a new audio recording, the first attributed to him in nearly a year. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi urged the group’s followers to respond to recent defeats by carrying out bombings, stabbings and vehicular attacks in his purported 55-minute speech titled “Give Glad Tidings to the Steadfast,” which was published by the group’s media wing on Wednesday.
CHapter 2:
-New political party Coalition Vancouver, who’s fielding candidates in the upcoming municipal election, is changing the dynamic of political discourse in BC by amplifying disparaging messages. But does it work to raise their profile? Its president Peter Labrie has made snide remarks on Twitter about women and the way they dress. It may not go down well, but it does get them attention. Is this ‘no filter, Trump style’ method of communication effective for political parties?
Chapter 3:
-A UBC Okanagan researcher is working with vineyards in BC’s grape growing region to try and pinpoint a way to protect crops from the impact of the smoke which is currently shrouding almost the entire province. The BC Wine Grape Council has identified ‘smoke taint’ as a problem and is helping to fund the research done by UBC.
Chapter 4:
-Former Conservative party leadership contender Maxime Bernier is fuelling speculation he’s about to launch his own political party, by calling a news conference for 10am in Ottawa, while his colleagues are holding a caucus meeting in Halifax.
Chapter 5:
-Four Canadian soldiers who fought in WWI were buried this morning in France. Over 1-hundred years later, why are these soldiers only being laid to rest now?
