Islam Makhachev is leaving lightweight behind.

On Tuesday, #ufc CEO Dana White made some huge announcements, the biggest of which is that Makhachev is vacating his lightweight title to move up and challenge welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena at a future event. As a result, former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira will now face former featherweight champion Ilia Topuria for the vacant lightweight title in the main event of UFC 317 this summer.

On top of that, White announced a number of other marque fights, including and Alexandre Pantoja vs. Kai Kara-France for the flyweight title as the co-main event to UFC 317, and Dricus du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev for the middleweight belt at UFC 319 in Chicago.
