Mustafa Akyol is a Turkish author and journalist, whose most recent columns have appeared in New York Times and Al-Monitor. He is also the author of Islam Without Extremes: A Muslim Case for Liberty, which examines the roles of democracy and liberty within the religion, and the state of modern Islam. Akyol was born in Ankara in 1972, and graduated from the International Relations Department at Bosphorus University. He also earned his masters thesis at the same university in the Kurdish question.
