Fiqh-e-Shafi Q and A

Islamic Ruling on Praying in Clothes with Pictures or Designs

Listen Later

Hazrat Ayesha (R.A) said that the Prophet (PBUH) had a cloth with designs on it, and these designs disturbed his prayer. Because of this, the Prophet (PBUH) gave that cloth to Abu Jahm and took a plain cloth from him. This Hadith is in Sahih Muslim (1240).

Based on this, Islamic scholars and jurists say that if a person wears clothes with pictures of living beings or with designs that attract attention and disturb the heart during prayer, then praying in such clothes is Makrooh. It affects the humility and focus of Salah. Therefore, one should avoid praying in such clothes. This ruling is mentioned in Ravdat al-Talibin (1/394).
