Islan Nettles is a 21 year old transgender woman who was murdered in Harlem in 2013. Her killer confessed to the crime, and invoked trans panic as his motive for his attack. The judge in this case offered Islan's killer a plea deal of 12 years jail time for manslaughter. No one was ever charged with a hate crime in the death of Islan.
