The best is to make istinja’ (removal of filth from ones private parts)with stones, then to follow up with water. It is permissible to settle with water, or with three stones that clear the area. If one wants to settle with one of them, then water is better. One refrains from facing the Qiblah or turning his back to it in the desert, one refrains from urinating in still water, and under the fruit bearing tree, or in the pathway, or the shade, and the hole. One should not talk while urinating or defecating, and does not face the sun or the moon, or turn his back to them.
