A Better Entrepreneur With Nicola Cairncross

It All Begins With A Bit Of Confidence

Listen Later

People love the idea that wealth creation is tidy – choose a goal, make a plan, execute.

If only.

My own experience has been far more interesting than that, and far less linear.

Most of my biggest leaps didn’t come from the areas I was obsessively focusing on.

They came from the edges – side projects, hunches, experiments that didn’t look particularly important at the time. I’d be busy working on A, and meanwhile the real growth would arrive quietly via B or C.

It’s almost comical in hindsight.

And that’s the bit most people overlook: wealth rarely turns up through the front door.

If you’ve been with me a while, you’ll remember my book The Money Gym – a book that got me cancelled from social media in 2006 for trying to educate ordinary people about how money works, but still the book that many people still tell me changed their financial trajectory. And the principles still hold.

But I’ve learned far more since writing it, especially about how money actually works once you’re past the “getting started” stage. A lot of the real lessons were things I didn’t yet have the lived experience to articulate back then.

One thing has stayed consistent though: the internal shift comes before the external results.

This week I’ve been looking at the decisions that actually changed things for me. Not the neat, strategic ones – the messy, slightly reckless ones where I followed the feeling that something was right, even if I couldn’t yet prove it. Whether in business, investing, trading, or general life, the pattern is the same.

Every turning point started with a deep feeling of rightness, of quiet confidence.

Not loud confidence.
Not “post it on LinkedIn” confidence.
The quieter kind that lets you move before the full picture has formed.

And I imagine you’ve got something like that sitting in front of you now. A decision you’ve been circling for a while. Something that keeps tapping on your shoulder whenever you allow yourself to think past the next week.

You don’t need a grand plan.

You just need to move one step in the direction you already know is right for you.

If you’d like to talk any of this through, I’m experimenting.

I have quite a lot of time on my hands, since retiring from digitial marketing and mentoring driven entrepreneurs.

So I’m opening up some space to connect with readers who are serious about 360-degree wealth creation – not in the shouty “hustle harder” sense, but in the “build a meaningful, resilient life” sense.

There’s no charge for this if you’re reading my Substacks or emails. It’s simply a chance to get to know you properly and see if I can help.

Email me at nicolacairncross @ gmail.com in the first instance and tell me a bit about where you are now and what you want the next few years to look like.

I read all my mail personally – no VA nowadays – and if I think I can genuinely help, we’ll take it from there.

The next step would be a simple conversation via Zoom and I’ll follow that up with a couple of my ideas for you, delivered by email.

No pressure, just ideas and support.

Cheers

Nicola
