Start at the end of the Nicodemus Story:

John 3:16 NLT

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.

The Back Story

John 3:1-2

There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee. After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. “Rabbi,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.” ‘

The Conversation

John 3:3-15

Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” “What do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?” Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.” “How are these things possible?” Nicodemus asked. Jesus replied, “You are a respected Jewish teacher, and yet you don’t understand these things? I assure you, we tell you what we know and have seen, and yet you won’t believe our testimony. But if you don’t believe me when I tell you about earthly things, how can you possibly believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man has come down from heaven. And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in

the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.

God’s presence was reestablished (“Finished” – Solomon) God’s promise was executed (Finished – Cross)God’s power was now certain (It is Done – Revelation)

In other words the presence, promise, and power of GRACE was what was established executed and made to be with all certainty.

The reborn man by faith in Jesus’ Finished work at the Cross and his full promise being done at the end of days was given an entirely new perspective.

The new man explodes because of what is done, not what is happening! If you are now in Christ, you are not what you were…YOU WERE, but God, by graceEphesians 2:1 NLT

Once, you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins.

You won’t see your need for a savior until you see yourself as a sinner.

Ephesians 2:3 (NLT)

All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. ‘

Stop calling the bad life good just because we are trapped by our own inability to admit it is bad.

To become this new man we have to have a BUT GOD moment.

You were, BUT GOD, by grace

Ø Searching, confused—But God will show the way through Jesus. Ø Hurting and empty—But God will fill your void by Spirit.Ø Addicted and in bondage—But God will set you free by Truth.

Ephesians 2:4-5 NLT

But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)

You were, but God, BY GRACE

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things
