Reverence, a verb, is defined as “regard or treat with deep respect.” When we fail to reverence God, we bring extreme duress into our lives. This duress cannot be explained or emotionalized away by incorporating concert-style worship segments or inflecting and overdramatized exhortations of wealth, prosperity, and love. Reverence to God means respecting the position and office that God, who created us, holds. Jesus taught us an incontrovertible way to approach the Father when he gave us an example of how to begin our prayer:
