What do you do when something hurts?

Do you sit with it—or immediately try to make the feeling go away?

In this episode of Ignite the Light, Alesia Denise talks about what it looks like to stop running from uncomfortable emotions and actually allow yourself to feel them. Drawing from her own recovery work and Jesus’ experience in Gethsemane, she explores the difference between feeling an emotion and allowing that emotion to control your decisions.

Sometimes the things we use to avoid pain aren’t even bad things—work, fitness, relationships, achievement, staying busy. The question is: what are we using them to avoid?

We talk about learning to notice, name, feel, and choose; why emotions can give us information without being given authority over our lives; and why sitting with pain doesn’t mean staying there.

The question for this week: What are you actually trying not to feel?

You don’t have to run from your pain to heal from it. Sometimes healing begins when you finally become willing to sit with what hurts. ❤️‍🔥

Ignite the Light is back for Season 4: Refined by Fire.

In this first episode, Alesia Denise opens up about walking through a season that didn’t go the way she planned—and how God used the very circumstances she wished she could change to slow her down, reveal what was beneath the surface, and begin a deeper work in her life.

Through 1 Peter 1:6–9 and stories throughout Scripture, we explore what it really means to be refined by fire: how trials reveal what’s inside of us, why God cares more about our character than our comfort, and how the refining process can prepare us for what He has ahead.

This season, we’re going deeper into surrender, discipline, healing, purpose, waiting, obedience, identity, leadership, and faith.
