Project Hail Mary may not be hitting theaters until 2026, but famed directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and writer Drew Goddard sat down with IGN at our SDCC studio to chat about the film, Rocky, and the the joys and difficulties of making an adaptation of a beloved story.

Ryan Gosling stars in the film, taking on the role of Ryland Grace, a former biology teacher and a molecular scientist. He's the science expert on Project Hail Mary's crew. Lord and Miller had the challenge of bringing him to life on screen alongside screenwriter Drew Goddard, who happens to be quite familiar with adapting Andy Weir's work after writing The Martian back in 2015.

You can catch Project Hail Mary in theaters on March 20, 2026.
