'It's About Damn Time!'' | Investing in Underestimated Founders. With Arlan Hamilton, founder of Backstage Capital.

Listen Later

In 2020, the diversity statistics on venture capital deals remain highly problematic. Less than 10% of venture capital investment deals go directly to diverse founders - women, POC and LGBTQ+ founders. When we ignore and omit such a large talent pool, everyone loses. That's exactly what Arlan Hamilton is addressing with Backstage Capital; giving a voice to those who are left in the shadows, so society at large can benefit.

Taking a leap of faith, Arlan built her VC firm whilst homeless and while still working in the music industry, (next to names like Jason Derulo!) Five years later, Backstage Capital has invested in over 130 startups (see Locus Mobility, Journey Foods, Goalsetter). She has been able to provide a platform and much needed support to underrepresented communities, and has just published her first book “It’s About Damn Time”! And we agree. It is about time we really address diversity.

Listen to this episode with Arlan Hamilton and TOA founder Niko Woischnik on the future of VC funds, diversity in tech and post-COVID19 speculations.
