It's All About Grace - Audio Message

Romans 11:1–10 NASB95 1 I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel? 3 “Lord, they have killed Your prophets, they have torn down Your altars, and I alone am left, and they are seeking my life.” 4 But what is the divine response to him? “I have kept for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” 5 In the same way then, there has also come to be at the present time a remnant according to God’s gracious choice. 6 But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace. 7 What then? What Israel is seeking, it has not obtained, but those who were chosen obtained it, and the rest were hardened; 8 just as it is written, “God gave them a spirit of stupor, Eyes to see not and ears to hear not, Down to this very day.” 9 And David says, “Let their table become a snare and a trap, And a stumbling block and a retribution to them. 10 “Let their eyes be darkened to see not, And bend their backs forever.”

Summary: Paul provides proof in Romans 11:1-10 that God has not rejected Israel.

Why should that matter to us? Because if God had indeed REJECTED Israel, there’s no REASON for us to believe He won’t REJECT us.

Paul gives four proofs that God has not rejected Israel:

1. Paul himself was both an ISRAELITE and a BELIEVER, proving God hadn’t rejected Israel.

2. God CHOSE them to be His people BEFORE they did anything right or wrong.  Why would he reject them now?

Ephesians 1:3–4 NASB95

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love

3. The Old Testament proves God didn’t reject Israel, even at their WORST.

Jude 24–25 KJV 1900 24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25 to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

4. A REMNANT, whether past or present, and regardless of the size, proves God has not rejected Israel.

Ephesians 2:8 NASB95 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;

Key to remember: SALVATION, from beginning to end, is God’s work, not OURS. We can rest assured that He will not reject us, but that He will be faithful to finish the good work He started in us.

Philippians 1:6 NASB95 6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
