After 2020 and early 2021, we are more than ready to connect. But we have to ensure that we cultivate the connection we want versus what we may be willing to settle for out of desperation. When we receive an invitation to do something, we should want to do it, not do it out of obligation.
Back in my 20s, I was good at getting people to do what I wanted. I was clingy, desperate, and living in a place of scarcity. People around me would do what I wanted, but one day I realized: they were doing it out of obligation.
When we receive an invitation, our immediate reaction can be that we have to say yes because it's what a good friend does' or I don't want to hurt their feelings if I say no'. But be honest and ask yourself, what do you want? Are you saying yes out of obligation?
As the world opens up, we are receiving lots of invitations. I invite you to notice the difference between when you feel desire and obligation. In order to give yourself permission to do what you want, you must first develop an awareness of the stories you have going on inside.
In this episode, I'm exploring invitations and obligations from the point of view of the giver and receiver and highlighting how implied messages of obligation could be showing up in your life. The only thing we have control over is the narrative we tell ourselves, so I'm teaching you how to get clear on what works for you and stop making other people responsible for your emotional wellbeing.
