It's My Birthday! Feelings About Aging & Embracing The NOW

Listen Later

Today I turn 9,855 days old! Or 27 years young. What better way to spend today's soulo episode than talking about Birthdays... and a LOT of different feelings can come up for us here as women in a society that has a double-standard for us aging vs our male counterparts.

Whether you are excited to celebrate, or cringe at the idea of the attention around this time, I encourage you to listen along and ask yourself: What stigmas & pressures are you putting on yourself that have to do with your age? Do these beliefs come from your heart or from a society expecting you to show up a certain way? Today I ask you to question exactly where your fundamental beliefs about what someone's life "should" look like at your age actually come from. The expectation generationally is ever-evolving, & I encourage you to set your own standard without regard to anyone else's ideals.

If you're in your 20s or 30s and affirming the statement, "I'm so old" just imagine how you're going to feel looking back from ages 40, 50, 60, 70 and so on, reflecting on your youth and regretting how much time you truly wasted saying to yourself how old you are! And guess what- 60 is still young, as is 70 and so on. Age is but a number. Age is in mind. How do you feel inside your human vessel? What are you doing to feel good & how can you implement more of this energy into your experience? As you'll see in the VICE article linked below, your vitality, your life force, is not a direct reflection of any set of laws, rules, restrictions or regulations around health or otherwise. Your vitality is not scalable by the number of revolutions you've experienced  here on earth around the sun. Your mentality becomes your reality, so what's the harm in reframing your inner monologue to reflect a new truth about your age? Instead of "I'm old" lets try these affirmations:

"I release fears about age, time, & control"
"I define & create what my age means to me"
"I step into the fullness of who I am now"
"I celebrate my age as a reflection of my gratitude for my life"
"I embrace every new day is a gift of new opportunity"

A lot of times we fear aging because of our lack mindset, which is why the above affirmations may be of service in reframing your aging mentality game. Many of us feel fear around the lack of control & lack of time we may feel more so the more time passes. But how much time have we ever been promised? All we have is now, after all. And right now is not too late, you're never too old (or young) to take aligned action with what you truly want or how you truly want to live. So stay present in this here moment, as it is the perfect  moment to make this internal shift. Make today count by reprogramming your mentality about your reality and your age so that you can embrace your present life and live it to the fullest.
