Dr. Tavara Johnson interviews interview Denise Miller. While others her age are retiring, Denise recently began her 4th career at age 67. As the owner of dlm strategies, ltd, and a Maxwell Leadership Team Certified Speaker, Trainer and Coach, and Maxwell Method of DISC Trainer, she specializes in working with women in career transition, non-profit organizational leadership teams and young minority professionals to develop Leadership and Communications skills and to outline and implement Personal Growth strategies. Denise’s career journey started more than 45 years ago in the Energy industry when she was hired right out of college to be trained as a future corporate leader as a “Management Trainee Cadet” with The Brooklyn Union Gas Company. After 22 years she stepped away from that corporate “safe space” into entrepreneurship.

Denise pursued training as a Personal Image Consultant. Once trained, she joined and was certified by the Association of Image Consultants International (AICI). In that career, Denise worked with individual clients on makeup and wardrobe selection and coordination and she was a Personal Shopper (independently and at Nordstrom – Roosevelt Field, NY), she also to audiences about personal image and professional presentation and, business and social etiquette. She also authored a Personal Image Workbook entitled “True Beauty for Women of Discretion”. In 2003, Denise began to teach Public Speaking in the Professional Studies (adult, continuing education) Program at Queens College of the City University of New York. In 2005, she was invited to join the Business Faculty of the college where she taught Oral and Written Business Communications, Introduction to Business, Leadership, Peer Mentoring and Professional Development for 15 years.
