When I think of logic I automatically think of Dr. Spock from the original Star Trek series. He had some great quotes on that show… my favorite was when he would say “When you die, on your death bed you will receive total consciousness… so I got that going for me… which is nice”.

Logic - Catch a fish

 

Matthew 17:27 "But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.”

 

 

When you look at the stories of the bible, You have to hand it to God… he almost never goes in a linear fashion. 

 

*For someone who has all power and authority he still seems to go the awkward way… there seems to be no logic to it. 

 

 

What does logic say in this situation: You need money for taxes so get a job, or sell something.

Jesus says go fishing… Peter was used to fishing for mass amounts of fish… so just one fish didn’t even make sense to Peter. 

Understand all the thinking and planning that Peter would have had to put into this if he had followed logic. Jesus says don’t follow logic- that’s the hard and detailed way. Just do what I say.

 

Logic doesn’t glorify God- Faith!

 

Why did Jesus set it up this way? I believe specifically because it went against everything in Peter. It went against his mindset, his skill set and his heart set.

 

I am sure Peter was talking in his head… like “what, are you kidding me?” I am going to have make this happen… Catch a fish and look in its mouth??? I have caught a million fish and never had a coin in the mouth.

 

Do you ever think you hear God speak to you… but you don’t follow the voice because it doesn’t make sense? It is not logical? Maybe it’s God testing you.

 

What is todays challenge:

Change your mindset… don’t look for logic, look for obedience.
