As we’re children we are often told, “stop crying, don’t get angry, it’s ok don’t be sad, keep it to yourself.” We’re very rarely asked how we are feeling in that very moment, or told that it’s ok to feel all the feels and that we are safe. Little boys are taught not to cry because that would mean they are a sissy or too soft. “Toughen up boy and stop your crying,” is what some may have heard growing up. Then as adults, we begin to suppress all the “feels” even the negative ones because it’s just too hard, and if we allow our emotions to be felt we just couldn’t handle it.
These questions I borrowed from some close friends of mine and I wanted to share them with you
1. What situation feels uncomfortable in your life right now?
2. What emotions are you avoiding because they feel uncomfortable?
3. How would you like to feel in this situation instead?
4. How would you feel if you loved the emotions that you're experiencing right now?
Gently repeat to yourself “even though, I feel uncomfortable around this situation in life (name the situation), I still love & accept me”
