Remember when IT was the coolest kid on the block- back in the go-go '90s? Innovation was the name of the game. Then- poof- the dot-com bubble burst, and suddenly IT was just an expense to be slashed. Cloud computing promised a comeback tour, but those old legacy systems and that sneaky "shadow IT" are still hanging around. Now, the numbers paint a… complicated picture. IT is both a cost and a supposed value creator. What's a company to do? We'll chew on the need to balance innovation with keeping the lights on, the power of good metrics, architectures that don't suck, and, of course, getting the right people on the bus.
