She graduated from the University of Michigan School of Nursing in 1975, and then received her commission in the United States Air Force as a medical officer in 1977. She established The Veteran Advocate, LLC, which is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business that assists veterans with health care, housing, and education challenges. The University of Michigan School of Nursing invited Fausone as the keynote speaker for its 2023 Spring Commencement ceremony.
