He was thrust into the seat of what the Russians considered the Third Rome, granting him all the rights and privileges of the official steward of Orthodox Christian civilization in the east. In order to hold on to that right, he did indeed do some pretty terrible things.

How did Ivan the Terrible earn his name and was the name warranted?
Ivan the Terrible: A Life From Beginning to End was an interesting book. I had heard of Ivan the Terrible, but I only knew of him has a Tsar of Russia. In his early life, he was more or less locked away and brought out has necessary. When he first became Tsar, he was almost killed by the Russian people. He was pious and reformed the Russian system of government at that time. His life was somewhat tragic because the nobles constantly played palace politics. Ivan the Terrible overall didnât appear to be a very good general or he couldnât pick appropriate leadership for his military. This short synopsis of his life and career provided me with more than enough information about the man. I like the book, okay, but I have no further interest in Ivan the Terrible.
Terrible Or Not.
Excellent. Another great Hourly History Book. Ivan The Terrible did some bad things but, he did try to save Russia from its enemies.
