"I've been waiting on them my whole life" Move member Mike Africa Jr speaks about his parents release from prison after 40 years ep: 151

Listen Later

The name MOVE was chosen by the organizations founder John Africa to say what they intended to do.Members intend to be active because they say, "Everything that's alive moves. If it didn't, it would be stagnant, dead." When members greet each other they say "On the MOVE". In 1978 during a confrontation at their home with the Philadelphia police department one officer ended up dead and 9 members of the MOVE organization (The MOVE 9) were sentenced to 100 years in prison as the result of his death, even though there was little to no evidence & no working guns in the house. In 1985 the Philadelphia police department upped the ante and dropped a bomb on the MOVE house despite them having knowledge of children being inside (they labelled the kids combatants). If that wasn't enough they shot and killed many members when they tried to flee the burning house, leaving only 2 survivors. On episode 151 of The Ascending Celebrity Podcast I speak to Mike Africa Jr. the son of 2 of the MOVE 9 members Debbie & Mike Sr. about the MOVE organization, the confrontations with police, him being born in prison, his work that freed his parents from jail after serving 40 years & his continued fight to get the rest of the MOVE 9 members released from jail.
