Charity feels as though she had been blindsided by the darkness hiding under her wifes' pain. A childhood injury had left her wife with chronic pain that led her down a dangerous and destructive path of self medication with heroin. Heroin was a master at hiding and deceiving. Charity was taken for a fool and lost everything. Her house was gone, career destroyed, personal finances in shambles, and ultimately her sense of safety and trust in other people had ceased to exist . Years later, she still feels ungrounded and finds herself keeping the same emotional barriers up that she created to protect herself and her children.
