In vitro fertilisation (IVF) which was once a mysterious procedure is a well known procedure today. But what is it? And how do you prepare your body for in vitro fertilisation?

Robert Norman, Professor for Reproductive and Periconceptual Medicine at University of Adelaide, and sub-specialist in reproductive medicine (CREI) and in endocrine biochemistry (FRPCA) joins us on this show and shed some light on the scenario of IVF in Australia. In this episode, he will also discuss how the Australian government is funding Medicare to make In Vitro Fertilisation affordable for couples that have difficulty having children.

About Robert Norman

Robert Norman holds a personal chair as Professor for Reproductive and Periconceptual Medicine at the University of Adelaide, and is a subspecialist in reproductive medicine (CREI) and in endocrine biochemistry (FRCPA). He was Director of the Robinson Institute at the University of Adelaide from 2008 to 2013, a collection of 60 Research Leaders in reproductive health and regenerative medicine, with more than 450 members. He has been leader of two NHMRC Program Grants and has published over 420 peer-reviewed publications and one book. He has a score of 70 (Google Scholar) with more than 19,500 citations. He serves on the editorial board of major reproductive journals.

His major research contributions have been in IVF and reproductive endocrinology, particularly in PCOS, the effect of lifestyle on reproductive outcomes and periconception medicine. He is an active reproductive medicine specialist at FertilitySA and was formerly CEO of Repromed Pty Ltd. He currently serves on the National Health and Medical Research Council’s Research and Embryo licensing committees and was awarded an Order of Australia (AO) in 2013.
