I stopped by and ran into friends as they’re working with another on a new venture at CES 2024. The product is for seeing a person in a teleconference eye to eye, and the portable rig was even more impressive.

Since the beginning of teleconferencing, people have tried to achieve eye contact like if they were standing face to face. This is important in some teleconferencing situations, as a person (doctor, lawyer) needs to see the other as they are talking to a camera.

What is iVi?

That is where iVi comes in. iVi was created by Dr. Graham Barrett, an ophthalmologist who wanted to improve the intimacy of virtual communication.

iVi is a actually representation of two people in front of their monitors – but think of the name as “Eye -v- Eye”.

The iVi is designed to make video chats feel more like face-to-face interactions. Because nobody wants to look into that little void on your computer constantly.

And iVi is a Lamp!

When closed, iVi works best as a table lamp, with a bottom LED.

The CES iVi Portable Workstation

I have worked as I.T. at a hospital. I know the one thing about technology – it needs to be portable.

That is why I was also impressed with the portable iVi station.

You might think a portable virtual station doesn’t make sense, but an advantage can be to have close separation in an environment. This portable station is light-weight, and can be used on a cart so it doesn’t need to be part of a big desktop system.

The portable station included a power battery that could run the unit for several hours, a wireless router, and a height adjustable table to get up for an Eye to eye view.

Price and Availability

iVi is rolling out soon with an MSRP of $1495. You can find out more at MyiVi.com
