Normal People

Izzy Gelman

Listen Later

Izzy Gelman is a high school student from Toronto, Canada who is actively working towards a career in fashion.

In this episode of Normal People, Izzy breaks down her life thus far. Izzy grew up in a family of artists, with one of her sisters being an actress and another sister being a songwriter. Singing, dancing, and acting have all been significant components to Izzy’s upbringing. She talks about her experiences at auditions, dance studios, writing songs, and more. Izzy also delves into her issues with the Toronto school board, specifically on the subject of dress code and the sexism behind the dress policy system, and on the subject of the lack of arts education in the public school system. On a more personal note, Izzy relays lessons she’s learned about friendship through the years. Finally, Izzy passionately explains how she’s working toward a career in fashion. From her blog I’ll Do Me, Thanks, to online classes on trend forecasting, to plans on how to bring more size diversity into the fashion world, Izzy is well on the path to becoming the next Anna Wintour.

This episode of Normal People offers a refreshing look into the life of a young person in a big city. Izzy is smart, passionate, caring, and bright eyed. I deeply enjoyed interviewing her and I hope that you enjoyed listening to the interview.
