The Prime Minister says the Government is "not at all" anti-farming, and knows our farmers care about the environment.
It comes after Environment Minister David Parker indicated reductions in how much nitrogen and phosphorus that can end up in our waterways.
Jacinda Ardern says there are already rules in place and the Government wants to work constructively with our primary industries.
She told Mike Hosking anti-farming is a mischaracterisation.
"I really get my back up when people describe us in that way. We want to be the most productive, sustainable dairy country in the world, we need to work with our food producers to do that."
Ardern says they will benefit when our brand is strengthened.
