For this fourth episode, it’s my conversation with the cool musician Jack Johnson. Johnson has a new record out called SURFILMUSIC. It’s a new documentary chronicling Jack Johnson’s evolution from surfer to filmmaker to world-renowned musician. So not only is there music, but as you can guess–a film too. The link is in the show notes. He’s also going out on tour. 

But this interview took place just after his album called In Between Dub came out back in 2023, which features some of the last recordings of dub pioneer Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry.

When we spoke, he was in his home studio on the island of Oahu and I was in my studio in Richmond, Va. We talk about the how Lee influenced the album, Jack’s love of surfing and the best burrito place in Santa Barbara.
