To mark what would have been All-Ireland football final weekend, The Players’ Voice speaks to two legends of the game.
Jack O’Shea is a seven-time All-Ireland winner at senior level, a six-time All-Star, a member of the GAA’s Gaelic Football Team of the Century, and was Texaco Footballer of the Year in 1980, the year Kerry beat Roscommon to win Sam Maguire and complete a 3-in-a-row.
Larry Tompkins captained Cork to All-Ireland victory over Meath in 1990 completing a historic ‘Double’ for the Rebel County who had also won the All-Ireland hurling title two weeks previously. That completed back to back All-Ireland’s for Tompkins who is also the holder of six Munster medals and three All-Stars.
The pair reflect on their respective wins in 1980 and 1990, the Cork v Kerry rivalry and lining out against each other.
