Jagdeep Soor - Head of Strategic Partnerships, Pathway Group

Listen Later

How important is lived experience in designing programmes to connect excluded communities and individuals with meaningful opportunities?

And is it possible to create and steer policy if you didn't finish your degree?

Jagdeep Soor is Head of Strategic Partnerships at Pathway Group - an organisation that (amongst other things) puts the experiences and needs of multicultural communities at the heart of its programmes and service offerings. In our conversation, Jagdeep shares his views on:

  • The talent that existed within his community growing up in the Midlands (and how a lack of funding made any successes all the more hard-won)
  • Why hockey was about more than just sport
  • Discovering that university didn't suit his learning style
  • His experiences of unemployment and how underinvestment and educational bias impacted his early career options
  • How he built a career that went from front-line employment support advice to influencing and implementing national policy
  • Why a regional and multicultural approach is so important when designing programmes
  • The power of combining data and drive for results with empathy and lived experience
