I think I lived in Hawaii in a prior life…
I’ve always been obsessed with the beach. I grew up in southern California and spent a lot of my teenage years at the beach. I first vacationed in Maui in 2006 and instantly fell in love with the islands and the people and I just knew that I had to live there. I moved to Oahu later that year. I hiked every trail I could find, got into rock climbing, and I kayaked and snorkeled. I took trips to explore each of the islands. I was so inspired by the majestic Hawaiian islands, the Aloha of the people and the myths and legends of the ancients that I started writing my first novel, Naupaka Blooming, which is based on the ancient Hawaiian myth of the naupaka flower. It’s a Romeo and Juliet type tragic love story. I retell the original story in my own way and then I reincarnate everyone in modern day and give them second chances. The naupaka flower grows on beaches and in mountains in Hawaii.
I always wanted to write but in my twenties I followed a more practical (safe!) career in business instead. Story ideas continued to come to me over the years though and I always jotted each one down, never taking the time to actually follow my true desire to be a writer. Until Hawaii!
My current project is a fantasy thriller series with a bit of romance mixed in. This time I set the story in Portland Oregon. No beaches but there is a forest and a witch!
I met and married my soul mate in Hawaii (I had the beach wedding with the real live native Hawaiian priest that I’d always dreamed of!) We now have a 6 year old daughter and a dog. We moved back to Portland where my husband is from. I love Portland but I sure do miss my beaches. Luckily we still take yearly trips back to Hawaii. Hawaii will always have a very special place in my heart.
I love reading as much as I love writing. I’m a big fan of fantasy. I love exploring ideas such as time travel, astral projection, ghosts and guardian spirits and reincarnation. Get me hooked in a good book and I’m lost to the world!
